The Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) considers research and audit applications involving patients, patients’ families, members of the community and WCHN staff.

Membership of and ethical consideration by the HREC are guided by the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NS), NHMRC, 2007 – updated December, 2013.

The current vacancies on the HREC are for the following positions a 1) Lay Woman full member 2) Proxy Lay Man and 3) Proxy Lay Woman fulfilling the following criteria:

  • A person who has no affiliation with the institution and does not currently engage in medical, scientific, legal or academic work.
  • Able to regularly attend scheduled meetings.

In order to comply with National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) requirements, applicants must be able to regularly attend scheduled meetings (on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 12 noon until 3 pm) at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital campus. Proxy members will be required to attend scheduled meetings on an ad hoc basis.

Positions on the HREC are honorary.
