The TeamKids Beach House
“No one can ever take our memories away. It means so much to us to be able to remember her – not in hospital or even a home – but on the few precious holidays we had by the ocean. She was so happy there. We all were.” Kirsteen Calder (mother of Georgia and Chelsea)
The TeamKids Beach House is a unique solution to one of the great unmet needs to provide much needed purpose built holiday accommodation for South Australian families who are caring around-the-clock for children suffering long term and life limiting illnesses.
These are families – often suffering financial stress due to the demands of constant care – who are unable to use mainstream holiday facilities due to their child’s often complex care needs. The Beach House will be the first holiday house in South Australia for children with complex needs.
It will offer a welcoming, calm and peaceful environment far from the physical and emotional stresses of the hospital setting. It will provide an environment in which the whole family can rest, recharge, and create special memories together, providing them with the break they need to continue their journey, however long it may be.
Recently, TeamKids purchased two adjacent blocks of land at Encounter Lakes in Victor Harbor and the next phase of this exciting project will be to consult with an architect, builders, hospital staff and families to design a house that will meet the specific medical needs of children with a life limiting or long term illness and their families.

Among key considerations are wheelchair access, door widths to cater for mobility aids and equipment, an oxygen supply, patient lifting systems, climate control and storage for special needs equipment. The fully furnished, medically equipped and landscaped TeamKids Beach House will provide a peaceful place where families can take a much needed break to share special experiences that will last a lifetime.
TeamKids goal is to raise $1.55M over the next 18 months to complete the final phases of the Beach House project from construction right through to adding the final furnishings and amenities.
